Jayne struggled to unplug the buffer because she was laughing. Finally, she got the machine unplugged, but not before she wet her pants from laughing so hard.

What Dale hadn’t realized before placing the buffer on the floor was that the weld had warped the plate. It wouldn’t sit flat. He took the buffer and threw it back into the iron pile. Years later when they moved off the ranch, it was one of the last things he saw.

Dale and Jayne started their own family while living on the ranch and had three children, Lance, Lloyd, and Ade, in addition to an adopted child—not through the courts, legally, but he was loved and raised as one of their own. As they grew, they helped their parents take care of the livestock and kept the ranch running smoothly. Life was always busy on the ranch and everyone had to pull their weight to make sure the work was done. It wasn’t always easy, but it was what Dale loved to do.
